I removed the 512MB RAM and replaced it with the original 128MB. I was then able to run Linux Puppy 4.3.1 from a Live CD. Antix 13.2 would load further than it did with the 512MB RAM but not to the end. This old laptop just wouldn't recognize the 512MB RAM. I won't be able to put Antix on it unless I can figure out how to get it to recognize the 512MB RAM, (or more).
Thanks to all for your help.

It is possible that the 512 Mb Ram is not meant for that model;different timing. Some of these older systems require memory chips of a specific timing. Some of the generic modules that are sold on ebay claim they will work, but they may not. Even those DIMMs for the desktops can cause this kind of headache.Antixfan wrote:I removed the 512MB RAM and replaced it with the original 128MB.

Crucial website is the best for finding the right chip for your machine... just key in your machine and it will tell you what the max ram is and what chips you need, then just copy that information and google it... you will find that crucial is expensive and people on amazon and even ebay sell the exact chips cheap... example i needed a mini dimm 128 meg for my old laptop, and crucial wanted 79 bucks, i got it on ebay new for about 23 dollars.....Antixfan wrote:I removed the 512MB RAM and replaced it with the original 128MB.
