My internet provider drops it's server every friday night around 7pm like clock work.
My wife runs windows and I run AntiX. I have to reboot the router by disconnecting the power jack going into the back of it to reset the server connection to my internet provider. This has become routine for me.
Wicd tells me my router is gone.
Windows tells my wife wifi is gone.
Simple.

Can i reach my router?
ping 192.168.1.1
Can I reach my DNS server? Is DNS server responding?
whois google.com
(someone else can confirm or refute this tactic. I believe lookup requires DNS in order to resolve whois.arin.net hostname)
If certain website {e.g. google.com} is slow to load, or seems unreachable:
traceroute
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.google.com"
linktext was:"http://www.google.com"
====================================
(traceroute isn't pre-installed in antix, so"sudo apt install traceroute". It's a tiny 57KB package)
"sudo apt install iftop" is a tiny 68KB package
and typing"iftop" in a terminal displays local{-}remote connections in realtime
