Hello,
I have a radeon card on my pc: the open source driver is installed but there is a"DRM panic notifier".
I will try the ATI proprietary driver.
I worked according

but the command"aptitude -r install linux-headers-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,') fglrx-driver"
stopped with an Error and having a look at the make.log file

"Some quick advice:

1. Choose your language before installation by pressing F2 at live boot grub.

2. Choose your prefered timezone by pressing F3 at live boot grub screen.

3. Have a read of the cheat options by pressing F1 at live boot grub screen.

4. Choose your preferred desktop environment by pressing F6 at live boot grub screen.

5. Use F5 to toggle graphics options.

6. F4 has extra cheats such as md5sum check and toram.

7. Use sgfxi (or smxi) to install nvidia/ATI drivers.

8. As antiX is a 'rolling release' distro it is advisable to run regular dist-upgrades. Using apt-get or install and use aptitude (but keep to one) from the command line is recommended, as is using the smxi script. Synaptic is best used for installing/upgrading individual packages.

9. You can safely use liquorix, aptosid, siduction and Debian kernels in antiX (if you wish). Use smxi.

10. You can set the autologin feature of SLiM in antiX Control Centre. You can also toggle F1 at the login screen to choose your desired desktop.

11. To install antiX to a usb device use the antix2usb gui application, UNetbootin or use dd for isohybrid.

12. Have a read of the antiX FAQ and the 'How To' articles at the antiX main site.

You need to upgrade the kernel and headers. See 12 November post

12 November 2013

New bug-fix kernels available

For those using antiX-13 series with the 3.7.10 kernel, you should update to the latest in the antiX stable repositories. The updated kernel fixes the bug of building applications that need to be built with Wheezy's libs and gcc.

Without going into detail, if you want to run antiX-13 series fixed to the Wheezy repository and want to install for example Virtualbox and nvidia drivers, you MUST install the latest 3.7.10.antix.7 kernel for your architecture for each application to build.

That fglrx-driver remove issue is blocking any system update .. upgrade etc.
How to get rid of it?

Floppy,

Anticapitalista is the creator of antiX. People like roky are helping out, but anti is the person to listen to if he's telling you what to do.

if you did a ctrl-alt-f1, it probably took you to a console screen. Try ctrl-alt-f7 to get back to your X-windows screen.

I'm really no authority, but my guess is maybe it can't remove fglrx-driver because its running. My thought would be write down anti's instruction, and then at the X-windows session, you could try ctrl-alt-backspace which will kill the X-windows session, then login to the console session and then su to root, and then I think you can run the command anti gave you.

It looks to me like you would need to update-grub and reboot with the new kernel after that, but I'm not really sure because I've never done this for an ATI card myself.

My system was broken? it was impossible to desinstall fglrx.
a) I reinstalled all open source ATI drivers, then it was possible to clean from fglrx with --purge or other;

linktext was:"https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo"

b) I upgraded from V3 to kernel V7 as per indicated previous post
c) I installed fglrx with the script sgfxi
I had to use few steps in between (and look at google"desinstall broken fglrx install" etc. or

)
Now, it seems to work fine. I will spend few more time to see if fglrx is working stable and fine. This was a hard piece of work. Thanks for all valuable suggestions here.

Now, how to upgrade to the newest BETA fglrx driver? I have"module version = 14.50.2" and the last one is 14.6 according

The video are not flickering anymore (good) but the windows opening/moving is slow = it takes a lot of CPU.

Update: in order to load the BETA driver, I made"sgfxi -B" but it says there is no BETA driver for my card.
So, lets stop here: Video and Youtube are a bit better than the open source driver.

I had to unclick the"Fluxbox Settings""Configuration""Opaque Window Moving" and the CPU is not used too much.
So, I am happy with the achieved status and will keep it as it is (I dont want to break it by installing new thinks.. = new bugs).

Thanks for mentioning this. It's a fixer step that I usually need to do, and had forgotten where to (un)set it !

I tried today to update the ATI driver.
a) I started"sgfxi" outside X
b) It stopped because it seems it had not enough room on the HDD. So, I deleted several applications (Gnome Mplayer etc.).
c) I started sgfxi again with"sgfxi -f". It stop with following error:

What should I do?
For me, its curious because I have the impression I installed an Antix 32bits on my machine.

with dmesg Linux version 3.7.10-antix.7-486-smp (unknown) (root@antiX1) (gcc version 4.7.2 (Debian 4.7.2-5) ) #4 SMP Tue Nov 12 13:37:53 EET 2013

Is it because the amd-catalyst-15.7.1-linux-x86.x86_64.zip is not 32 bit but 64 bit?

How to know if I have antix 32 or 64 bits installed?
