I get this error when trying to install flash:
md5sum rejected install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
Try again later with"update-flashplugin-nonfree --install".

Any help appreciated

I think you'll find that flash does get installed despite that error message.

If it doesn't, temporarily comment out the MEPIS repo in /etc/apt/sources.list and then
#apt-get update
#apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
