I was gonna try to install Liqourix Kernel 2.6.32 after editing /etc/apt/sources.list in Antix 8.2 on my Asus 900. Right now it will show it commented back out because I couldn't even get the Liqourix Keyrings to install with out inserv and initscript, and wicd errors among others so I commented it back out to default entry.

Code: Select all

# liquorix kernels
# deb http://liquorix.net/debian/ sid main
So I did a sudo apt-get update after putting back Liqourix deb source entry back to default (commented out) then sudo apt-get upgrade and still get inserv and initscript and wicd errors and warnings. So I figure I would start out with reinstalling initscripts in Synaptic. But no Joy there. Errors and Warnings. So I moved on to Wicd and tried a reinstall there. Same problem as initscript basically.
Below is screenshots of wicd reinstall from synaptic. Basically same errors as initscript reinstall. Liqourix Kernel header and Image install also besides the liqourix Keyring install also. All inserv and initscript and wicd errors and warnings besides other errors and warnings. Pretty much the same for all. Nothing seems broke though as wicd and wireless is working. Antix 8.2 boots up fine . I am posting this thread with it. Maybe somebody can tell me what is going on. The Liqourix Kernel experiment is what brought all this to my attention.

Don't worry, it'll just replace xorg (upgrade).
It will remove mplayer too, as you know already. Same with wicd, I think. These can be reinstalled, maybe force and put on hold a stable version.

As for the insserv, you may try

Code: Select all

dpkg-reconfigure insserv

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========

For the init script issue:
anticapitalista wrote:To add about the lsb errors.
Following Debian Testing, the upgrade now wants users to use Dependency Based Boot via insserv (it is faster).
This happens automatically on upgrade, except it doesn't on antiX-M8.2 (and earlier) because of the lsb errors in ejecrcd and mepis-network.

Solution 1:
1. Remove /etc/init.d/ejecrcd file as root with the file manager and remove mepis-network (apt-get purge mepis-network)
2. In a rooot terminal dpkg-reconfigure sysv-rc and choose yes.

Solution 2:
1. In /etc/init.d edit the ejecrcd file to look like this and rename in ejectcd. Same with mepis-network
2. In a rooot terminal dpkg-reconfigure sysv-rc and choose yes.

For the liquorix kernel, I would recommend that you install it via smxi

So I would do this: first fix the init issue, then reboot to run level 3 (press 'e' when in grub's menu and add a 3 to the kernel line, then 'b' to boot), login as root and run smxi. It'll do the dist-upgrade and after you'll have the option to install the liquorix kernel. When it's finished choose to quit and type 'sudo reboot' (I find this safer than jumping directly to the desktop).

Thanks Secipolla for the detailed rundown. I will be trying this out tomorrow with a fresh mind. I had already renamed ejecrcd file to ejectcd but that was all I did.
I will connect my Asus900 to a landline first before I proceed so I can continue after wicd is gone for the short terrm. Again thanks for the detailed breakdown. I can
run with that . Was afeared of smxi as it was unknown territory for me and I like to be sure before I break a install. LOL

You're welcome.
Maybe it's wiser to be connected to cable as you said, but just FYI, the wicd package will still be on the system (probably __{{emoticon}}__ ).
After running smxi, check if it was removed:

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy wicd
if so, then:

Code: Select all

apt-get install wicd/stable
(considering you have the stable repos enabled as well)
then you can put it on hold:

Code: Select all

echo wicd hold|dpkg --set-selections
Source:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://manual.sidux.com/en/sys-admin-apt-en.htm"
linktext was:"http://manual.sidux.com/en/sys-admin-apt-en.htm"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false

I'm guessing it's better to install wicd from stable (if it is removed) since the testing version could maybe give errors in a next upgrade, but that's just a guess. You can do the same thing as above with wicd from testing (don't put /stable), put it on hold the same way and see the output on the next upgrade.

Hmmmm. Weird.

Code: Select all

dpkg-reconfigure inserv
Package `inserv' is not installed and no info is available.
Use dpkg --info (= dpkg-deb --info) to examine archive files,
and dpkg --contents (= dpkg-deb --contents) to list their contents.

Just for info. tried fixing the init.d issue first with method 1. I ran dpkg-reconfigure sysv-rc and nothing happened. No yes to answer to. So now I am running dist-upgrade via smxi right now.

Finished up with dist-upgrade via smxi script. Didn't use sid or sidux repos. Finished with errors I think because of insserv. I tried upgrade -f but nothing was fixed. So I rebooted OK and got into terminal as root user. Readout below. I will try smxi again later as now I aint a virgin with it so I will try Liquorix Kernel install maybe tomorrow along with dist-upgrade. If I have to reinstall apps again I got stuff wrote down and I am getting a little better with stuff in general. My screen is so small and my eyes are old so I kept seeing inserv instead of insserv. No wonder I couldn't find it.

Last post for today. Wife is asking what the heck I am doing. She is Vista and XP and 2000 Pro only. Fired up Asus on Battery power, running wireless. Tested Flash and a movie avi file I have on USB. No problems with any of em. Had a good workout today. I will try the smxi liquorix kernel install later during the week. Just glad I didn't break anything and learned a little to. Thanks Anti and Secipolla for holding my hand thru this. Much appreciatted.

Just a note. Wicd is running Ok on Automatic instead of dhclient. Thought it might be worth a mention.

Before you run dist-upgrade again (you can skip it in smxi) better hold the packages that you had to reinstall.
