Hello! Some of you may know me as bowlkook from Mepislovers. With any luck, I shall be using antiX in a sort of dual boot setup on my wife's laptop. It's currently got Vista on it, which may one day get replaced properly but in the meantime, I intend to install antiX on an external hdd.

My main reason for wanting to do this, although I generally don't mind using Vista occasionally, is that I am utterly bored with the amount of time it takes to boot on a machine that will no doubt be so fast it'll make my eyes water with a more elegant OS. Obviously, as the lappy can run the V word to some extent, it's fairly well specc'd. So, I'll start with something nice and light and bloat it to my tastes. __{{emoticon}}__

Welcome to antiX from me.

You may want to start with the antiX-base version and build upwards.
The base comes with fluxbox, X, leafpad editor, iceweasel and rox-filer.
That's about it.
You can add whatever you wish.
Have fun!

I was toying with the idea of starting with the base iso and doing wacky things like KDE4ing it but I think (From playing with the Live CD) I'll probably end up using IceWM. Liking it a lot! Hopefully, the HDD I ordered has arrived today so I can get stuck in with a 'proper' install...

If you are installing to an external hdd don't forget to check the initrd option on the installer.

Got it covered, thanks. __{{emoticon}}__
Also, I'm aware of the potential need to use UUIDs in fstab & menu.lst instead of /dev/sda or whatever. Is that a necessity or something to go into if problems arise?

Not got the HDD I ordered yet so haven't had a chance to even make a start yet... __{{emoticon}}__
