In the Speed thread, Bestusernameever says:
PS don't tell me to put icewn on for some reason I just can't stand it.
and dolphin_oracle says:
I've never liked icewm either
I started using antiX last September and am completely sold on IceWM. Before I used antiX I had never used IceWM and I now run it on a 3/4 Yr old Dell netbook (see below for spec.) and have managed to set it up to run pretty much like KDE3.

It makes my dishes cleaner, my laundry whiter, my teeth stronger & increases my sex drive. What more could you want from a Window Manager?

Icewn is good i'll give it that but to me Lxde is easier to use and it is for me. To even add a simple shortcut to the desktop was a challenge at first for me when I had icewn. I also had a computer running lubuntu for a while so I know a few things about lxde. For me LXDE all the way.
(Lxde runs pretty fast on this computer too.)

I seem to be an icewm person too... It just suit my small machine(screen) and my use.
I don't do much heavy work, mostly browsing, and some times...uh, don't remember.
I use console apps as much as I can for things like playing music (moc) and rtorrent to get the music, and iso files, so that doesn't matter when it comes to the window managers.
That is just because I want to try something, not a recommendation...at all.

I can do the Fluxbox or Icewm dance with the best of ya. I can run Lxpanels, wbar, tint2, in Fluxbox or Trick out Icewm to look like a old Bikers poster.

I setup LXDE in AntiX 8.5 core install. It was a pain in the butt finding out hal needed being installed to get the shutdown buttons to work and dealing
with Debians older PCManFM that siamese's in with a LXDE installation. I had to use xdm login manager after slim broke on that install but
I still am running that hard drive on that Amrel Laptop.

One of the Latest installs

@rc - For interest's sake, there's one thing I don't quite get:

Code: Select all

$ inxi -F
System: Host: antieee Kernel: 3.7.1-antix.3-486-smp i686 (32 bit)
           Desktop: IceWM 1.3.7 Distro: Microsoft Windows 98 date: 09 November 1998
You seem to be running an antiX kernel on an MS distro. I'm guessing that W98 was the system installed when you got the machine - is that fact persisting deep in the ROM? Is your machine dual booting or what?

Just, as I say, interested is all!
