I've already checked that right after I downloaded the iso, and I used the same cd to install antiX on two different computers, one of them is okay.
There could be some failure in the cd drive of the laptop though, if this is the case, can I somehow fix the installation (i.e. from usb) without complete reinstall?

If there is a problem with the HD then it may come up sooner or later. But regarding the reinstallation, you can do this:
- backup /var/cache/apt/archives if you like so you can copy the files to the re-installed system and have less apps to download when dist-upgrade.
- install choosing to preserve your current home folder (there's a check box for that and it works very well). For it to work you must choose the same username you're using now.

Now it works. __{{emoticon}}__
I made a reinstall preserving the home folder as you suggested.
Thanks once more and sorry for the noise.
