Howdy and Welcome.

I think you will be best served using the i486 iso for this computer.

I have made screenshot tutorials that show the installer in action for a different computer than yours. You can use that as a general reference. For a full install to internal Hardrive. Antix will save any changes=persistence.

For your computer. I would make a /swap partition in gparted of at least 512MB before running the gui installer.
The rest I would make ext3 file system and flag as boot.

Once installed. You can use synaptic package manager to install
how can I install Firefox, Google Chrome and Skype?
but before you do. Open a terminal and type in

Code: Select all

sux
hit enter key
type in your password and hit enter key.
then type in

Code: Select all

apt-get update
to get/update to the latest versions of Chromium and Skype. Iceweasel is AntiX/Debians Firefox.

Good luck.

I suggest you avoid using persistence (at least for now). Like Roky said, install antiX to your hard drive first and then once that is working, follow his direction to install the extra programs you want.

On newer computers with a lot of memory, you can install programs like Firefox even when using a LiveCD (before installing antiX to your hard drive). But all the information has to be stored in RAM and on your older machine, you would probably run out of RAM.
