Last night. dfreas posted a thread on enabling Hulu Desktop on Mepis. I tried this out on my AntiX 11 Base install in my m/c shop Desktop. It worked as advertised.

I used the 32 bit ubuntu download link. My ~/.huludesktop text file looks like.

Code: Select all

[display]
fullscreen = FALSE
width = 768
height = 576
pos_x = 174
pos_y = 91

[remote]
lirc_device = /dev/lircd
lirc_remote_identifier = mceusb
lirc_release_suffix = _UP
lirc_repeat_threshold = 10
button_name_up = Up
button_name_down = Down
button_name_left = Left
button_name_right = Right
button_name_select = OK
button_name_menu = Home

[flash]
flash_location = /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so

[screensaver]
suspend_script = (null)
resume_script = (null)

[version]
latest = (null)
eula_version = 1
to find the launcher command for icewm and fluxbox

Code: Select all

@biker:~$ which huludesktop
/usr/bin/huludesktop

now if only netflix would get off its duff in regards to linux. **sigh** maybe html5 will accomplish that, eventually.

I won a Kindle Fire at work. Not something I would ever buy... Anyway, with a new KF you get 1 month free membership to Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime also has streaming videos. Although not as good as Netflix, They seem to have a decent selection and they work well in linux. I think they may have a free trial membership deal. May be a good alternative for some to Netflix.

Also, I was watching the Linux Action Show and saw that their player (Sublime Video) has a switcher and you can choose between HTML5 and Flash. You just need to right click on the video. For me, HTML5 seemed to use about 10-15% less CPU power, when compared to Flash. The quality between the two was imperceptible to me.

Stress Test was installing Hulu TV on my EEEPC 701 with AntiX 8.5 Full Iso with a 7" screen. I keep this netbook updated though with latest libs over time since original install with apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade and have the correct video drivers installed also via smxi script.

Display and Feed worked out just fine in Icewm and Fluxbox (I had to fiddle hulu tv preferences in fluxbox for center screen view though).

My wife thinks it's kinda neat. She wants me to figure out how to get this to work in her new
Compaq Windows 7 Laptop I bought for her Birthday. She has a free 30 day trial for Netflix (Windows 7 Bloatware) but she does not use it.
