I have antiX 8.2 running on the hard drive. I don't understand how updates to the various applications are handled. Will I see update reminders pop up as I am used to seeing in Ubuntu? If not, how would I know when an application can or needs to be updated?
Also, how do I actually go about obtaining the updates? I'm not sure how to do this.
Thanks.

There are no pop ups in antiX.
To see what apps can be upgraded, use antiX control centre -> System -> Manage Packages (Synaptic)
Use Reload to update the repositories and then Custom Filters -> Upgradable will show which apps can be upgraded.
Be careful though, as antiX uses the Debian Testing repository and upgrades are permanently changing. It is not like Ubuntu that freezes the pool, so you might get breakage. For an ultra stable system, change the repos to point only to Debian Stable. You can do this in synaptic -> Settings -> repositories.
