antiX 13.2 x64 - usb live mode or installed on hard drive, no difference, works on laptop, very fast (antiX) BTW

I just learned how to set up wi-fi connection, but I am not able to do the same using GSM modem

I do not have such a device, so... I am just throwing this out there.

I have tethered to my phone, thru the usb. I do not know how different that is?

All I did was to plug in the cable, set the phone to tether... and usb0 popped up in ceni, which is what I use for network connections.

I hope it might help, or that I have not confused you further, and that someone has a better answer.
