haha! I kept typing 'ipconfig' and wondering what I was doing wrong.. to much time spent in Windows!

okay, so...

running with it cabled works without a hitch. I have two other devices that are picking up the SSID and connecting just fine, but Wicd Network Manager just says 'No wireless networks found'.
I've tried turning the wireless off and on again, as well as resetting the wireless router. It's running on WPA security if that helps.
Thanks for your assistance thus far!

Open Wicd preferences and type into wireless blank box wlan0 and close preferences and hit the refresh button.

Yeah, that did the trick!
Thank you!

Right, now to see how well this little thing can handle Blender, Inkscape, VLC player etc.

Is there a general 'how to' page for antix/linux for beginers anywhere? I'd rather not have to bother you lot every time I need to do something on this thing. haha

Oh yeah, before I go installing things.. is there any issues with attempting to install the latest versions of programs?

At some point I managed to get a slightly newer version of Firefox running on Xandros, only to find that the next time I ran it, I'd forgotten to disable the auto updates and it had 'upgraded' itself to a version that wasn't compatible. ARGH!

First. Congrats on a successful install. Next before you do any thing else. Open terminal as root again and do a

Code: Select all

apt-get update
before you install anything like blender or whatever. After that you can use synaptic to install whatever you wish. The update will pull in the latest packages for blender and other stuff you wish to install. Don't download stuff online and try to install outside of synaptic. I say this because you are new to AntiX yet. As far as manuals go. There is a help section in the menu. Though you may like VLC. I find the default gnome-mplayer in AntiX works OK for me. But to each their own.

The Xandros Firefox break was due to outdated libs in default Xandros.

Use google also and use Debian or AntiX in your search terms for any questions you may have also. That works for me also.

Okay, apt-get has been updated. yay!

I must admit, so far I'm pretty impressed with Antix! While on Xandros, I found that youtube vids would freeze, then skip every so often i figured that this was just due to the weak hardware, so I was pretty surprised to find that on Antix, they're behaving themselves much better!

So far I'm firing up Synaptic via terminal, where do i find it from the start menu?..hmm, is it even called a start menu in Antix? haha!

So far I've got Inkscape installed, I noticed that on the description it read:
'Other extensions use ruby, libxml-xql-perl, python-numpy, and python-lxml.
You must have these packages to make full use of all extensions and effects.'

How do I check which packages I have on this?
Also, I've not managed to find Skype in synaptic, how would I go about getting it?

That one you'll have to download. I run Jitsi instead of skype so you are on your own with that. Google skype antix.
Same for the

google it and include debian instead of antix in the search. I could show you but I figure you are better off learning if you do for your self. If having problems searching. Just let me know.
I am not blowing you off. I have been busy getting
