I am using MATE.

I am trying to follow the"Build a Custom antiX-mate install" series of videos on youtube.

My screen resolution is not right, and I cannot set it correctly from within MATE. Also, I have two monitors, and cannot set that up from within MATE.

There is not xorg.conf file, but I think I can create one.

A huge problem that I am having, is that I cannot boot to the CLI. This is seriously irritating.

What login manager did you install? You need to make sure it doesn't run for all run levels.
