In brief flirted unhappily with many linux O/S trying to get them to run with stability on my minimilist PC. Asus A7V with Athlon socket-A 800 MHz processor and 2 GB RAM. Mepis forum led me firstly to MepisLite and then after much trouble to anti-X M7.5. It has been running now for 24hrs and I have not broken it yet!

Loading was a dream; I settled down with a mug of coffee sitting comfortably but it was up and running and on the internet before my cup ran dry!

thanks Mepis and the support forums; shall happily contribute if as I expect it is still UP this w.e.!!
