Hi,

a few days ago I installed antiX on an Acer Aspire 3624. It is running amazingly good with antiX, which makes me feel happy. __{{emoticon}}__

I was able to adjust a few things according to my wishes and was about to create a way to toggle between German and TW keyboard and add a iBus to the start up applications. Unfortunately while changing language settings or while using office libre, the menu disappeared. When I click on the menu icon, I only get the choice for: Run..., Settings and Logout. Run is still helpful, but I do not remember all names of the applications and some applications like synaptic do not start via run. Run shows a notice: \Error: Failed to execute child process"synaptic" (No such file or directory)'

My questions:
1. How can I try to get the menu back?
2. Where or how to add startup applications?
3. how to set up a toggle between DE and TW (US) keyboard?

For the menu I could do a fresh install, but that would mean I would again need to update the system, download applications and re-adjust settings according to my wishes. If there is no easy way to get the menu back, I will do a reinstall.

Thanks in advance for any help,
TianLan

Point 1. is solved.
Error was: I forgot to set the choice for the locale for antiX applications.
Solution: antiX Control Center > Configure System > antiX System, there tick:: 'Enable locale options'\ >under 'Locales' tick: 'Enable locale options' >then tick: 'enable language select '>then tick: 'OK' >>ROXTerm will show up and ask you to choose which locales to generate. Since I did that before, I closed that window and thereafter YAD asked to 'choose your locale for antiX applications'. > I chose my preferred language and clicked 'OK' and the MENU was back.

I will try to continue to find the way to solve point 2 and 3, but if anyone knows already... Please let me know.

Welcome to antiX!

2. Add the app to the windows-manager you use startup file in /home/username/.

eg for iceWM /home/username/.icewm/startup

You will probably need to logout and back in.

If it is to start up something while booting, then you need to add it to etc/rc.local.

What do you want to add to startup?

3. Edit etc/default/keyboard to something like

Code: Select all

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="us,de,tw"
XKBVARIANT=","
XKBOPTIONS="grp:alt_shift_toggle,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,grp_led:scroll"
BACKSPACE="guess"

Point 3. is solved by editing according to anticapitalista's guideline. Thanks, the change was easy.

re 2. I like to add iBUS to the startup. I tried to follow your instructions, but need more details.
At present I do not have a folder for iBUS in my home folder. I found the etc/rc.local script.
I don't understand: 'Add the app to the windows-manager you use startup file in /home/username/.' (The App is IBUS,

Q: What to do I need to do to let IBUS autostart without me having to manually start it each session?

Again thanks in advance and since it is 24:00 in Taiwan, I will go to bed now. Have a good remaining day, wherever you are.

Have a look at minux's post in this thread. Change scim to ibus.

This threat can be considered as closed. The questions got solved.
Afterwards this acer Aspire 3620 was upgraded to MX 14 and is now running well.
