Anti contacted me recently to see if I was still alive. I'm not only alive, I'm doing well and I appreciated his thoughtfulness on checking on me.
I was a newbie with linux when I started out with antiX Spartacus. The great people on this forum got me off to a solid understanding of linux basics. Crazy Horse, however, would not install on my machine for some reason so I went on a"walk about" through the linux world. Tried a number of distro's and stuck with each for a period of months to learn some of their nuances. During that time I checked in on how things were going back"home" (antiX forum) on occasion. I began to see what a nice thing we have antiX...."absence makes the heart grow fonder."
I'm hoping 8.5 installs without problems on this machine...(right now working off the rc1 live cd). I have one little Shuttle with the old trusty antiX Intifada that I keep important stuff on. This Shuttle has the latest flavor of linux I've been playing with...Fedora 12. Actually I like Fedora better than most of the other one's I've tried....even with gnome. KDE 4 has been just a little too buggy over the long haul for this older hardware.
Wanted to say hi to everyone and let you know where I've been. I should be popping off here a little more often, especially if Edelman installs ok. One other fact became apparent during my"walk about": the knowledge and friendly, helpful attitude on this forum is unmatched.

Welcome back impuwat. I have been down with eye surgery so I haven't got around to burning and trying the new 8.5 rc1 yet. My eye still pains me a bit with the computer screen. I know what you mean about the newer kernels and older hardware. Anti has been pretty good at sorting this issue out however. Glad to see you are doing OK. Give me a couple more weeks and I will be active myself. Happy Trails, Rok
