Hi guys,
I am a happy Mepis7.0 user and GNU/Linux enthusiast. I am planning to burn a"liveCD" for antix, to try on old computers. Which file should I burn:
antiX-M7.01-base.iso, or
antiX-M7.01.iso, or
both to the same CDR?

If you've already discussed this issue, can you direct me to that discussion?

Welcome to the antiX world eemaestro!

antix base is a stripped down version that will require more work to get set up. The advantage is you can have exactly what you want.

Since you are new to antiX my suggestion would be to download antiX-M7.01.iso and run it as live cd. Experiment and see if it is compatible with your hardware. Give fluxbox a good trial and enjoy its speed and adaptability. As you play, read through the forum postings and gather more information. Most of us are just fine with antiX as it is set up.

Have fun!

Welcome.

Depending how old the box is you might want to look at Spartacus. It will boot on PII and down.

Okay, thank you. I will burn a CDR with that file and play with it.

Spartacus was the first release of Antix. Based on Mepis 6.5/Ubuntu. The kernel will support older chips.

firstly welcome to antiX.

If you have a k5/k6 AMD processor then the latest antiX-M7.01 Lysistrata won't boot, but PII should (though PII MMX seems to be a problem).
I agree with impuwat. Try out antiX-M7.01, see if it works ok for your hardware and if you want more control (and have some experience of linux) then go ahead with the base option.
