Hello!

I am an Ubuntu user since the first times.
Not really a distro hopper but I tried various distros on some systems...
I liked Mepis running on a sort of Pentium III 800 MHz, but I went back to MS windows XP on this system due to the printer (an Epson multifunction printer)...

On my eeepc I tried eeexubuntu, eeebuntu, mandriva 2008 and mandriva 2009. Yes, the eeepc is supported out of the box by mandriva... but toooo slow!
eeexubuntu did a good job (I like XFCE), but is not supported since the rc2, and I had to reinstall it a few times.

I was happy to read that Warren Woodford is back; I burned a Mepis 8.0 (alpha? rc?) iso, I have yet to test it. I think Mepis is a better KDE distro than Kubuntu.

Back to eeepc and antix: tried Antix from a CD rom (extrenal drive), runs fast; I liked the icewm desk, a great look for a light WM; I didn't succeed in activating the wireless connection (from the Meps control center), but I presume I can manage it. But I failed to install either to a SD card or to a USB stick. I'll post it to the Hardware forum.

Happy to see that Antix has such an active community (and active leader).

Welcome lagopus,

I'm sure you will be able to get the wireless to work on that eee. If you like XFCE go ahead and install it. I use it regularly on my Antix laptop. There should be a screen shot somewhere here on the forum.

Here it is:

Hello, lagopus. I am glad you are here and are enjoying your stay. I hope you get things working with your eeepc. I think there are some posts here and at mepislovers regarding the eeepc. There are also posts at both sites for setting up xfce on your system. If you need links, please let us know. Thanks.

john

P.S. I am working on a new theme for antix icewm based on the theme"3enight" from freshmeat. If you're interested, here is a link:

You can't tell what it looks like from the screenshot, but it is worth looking at. Also, my version will have more eye-candy while still trying to be basic.
