Hi. I'm a boring old fart __{{emoticon}}__ (mid-50s) and I've started with Linux 5 months ago...with ubuntu on 3 pcs
After 2 weeks I switched alls pcs to Linux Mint, which seems to be the better"*buntu"
just 4 fun and 4 learning I've tried (beneath the productive use of Mint) a lot more of distributions: debian, mandriva, slackware, easys, ultimate Linux, Puppy, Muppy, nimbleX, gNewsense, PCLinuxOS...then I discovered sidux, tried it in depth, switch my major pc to it (the other pcs have still Mint) and be happy with my decision.
Yesterday i read in the sidux-forum something about AntiX, which sounds very interesting, so I got the M8-Beta and installed it on a test-system. This was very easy and AntiX run out of the box fully supporting my graphics, sound and network and ist runs very fast! I'm deeply impressed. Here's a screenshot

I plan to use AntiX productive (beneath my major pc with sidux) on a 2nd pc with older components but I will wait with the installation until M8 is stable released.

Welcome, wingevil. You've tried quite a lot and quite a range of distros in just 5 months. Your list is very impressive. Since you enjoy using sidux, you may be pleased to know that you can"sidux" antix. Just browse the forums a bit and you'll be rewarded with a lot of helpful info. Have fun.

Welcome wingevil!
My history is very similar to yours. I also started out with Ubuntu, which I found to be a tremendous improvement over Windows. Then I tried Linux Mint and thought they had done a great job at improving and streamlining 'buntu and provide a very stable release.
Then I started playing with a very old dell laptop which ran xubuntu and mint xfce ok, but not great. So I started reading about smaller distros and tried a whole bunch of them (DSL, puppy linux, etc).
I was fortunate to find Antix. Not only is this a great distro but the community is even better.
Enjoy Antix!

Welcome to the world of antiX.
Glad to read that you appreciate it and I too am a sidux fan. In fact antiX has borrowed a lot from sidux, not just apps such as ceni and the meta-installer, but also the possibility of installing a sidux kernel if you wish.
antiX also uses the smxi/sgfxi/svmi/inxi scripts too.
Have fun!

SimplyMEPIS 8.0 is now at Beta 5 testing level and antiX M8.0 has had two test releases, mostly for the antiX community here. Both are looking really great! Hope you enjoy experimenting with antiX, and my sincerest welcome to you here in the forum!
Welcome, wingevil! I have long been a fan of MEPIS, and I really used to enjoy the early versions of MEPIS before they added KDE as the default desktop. Those early versions made great Live CDs! When the antiX project began around the time of SimplyMEPIS 6.5, I took an interest because of this very thing. I used antiX from time to time and enjoyed it, but once I found out that anti was experimenting with sidux features and that I could create a hybrid distro out of antiX, merging some of my favorite MEPIS and sidux features (and those are my other two favorites - MEPIS for the ease of use and stability, sidux for the cutting edge desktop and great management tools), that REALLY sold me at an even greater level. I started participating in the forum here and testing out antiX whenever I could spend the time to do so.anticapitalista wrote: Glad to read that you appreciate it and I too am a sidux fan.
