Popping in to do the whole noob (to the forum), customary post. I've been around the block with various Linuces and BSDs since '98 or so, and honestly I'm not a huge fan of Debian based systems, but the options for a decent Linux distro are getting really thin these days. I had used AntiX for quite a while as a rescue usb, mostly because it's uber light and one of the very few that come with a tiling wm in the live environment.

Anyway, after a bad drive took out my extremely stripped down and heavily modified CentOS 5 install (yeah go ahead and make jokes __{{emoticon}}__ ) I decided to go ahead put AntiX on the bare metal and give it a real try. At about a week in now and so far really liking it as a base.

Welcome xhack. I too started using antiX as a fast booting rescue USB. The LiveUSB is very easy to customize now both with root persistence and the remaster-me program.

I'm sure your experience could be a tremendous asset here.

Hey BitJam. Thanks for the welcome. I'm far better with RedHat and BSD, but I do well on Deb systems too. That said, this is pretty cool forum so I think I'll be hanging around and will be happy to assist anywhere I can.

Howdy and Welcome from me also. I have been on a bit of non computer walk about. My area is finally cooling down for long distance scooter travels.

Never tried a rpm distro again after a rpm dist-upgrade hell ride with Mandriva 2009. All those Redhat and Fedora posts at some other forums make me afeared also. To each their own though. I like Redheads. Others like Blondes.

I have a good internet buddie that work with Scientific Linux though as a , Senior Systems/Performance Engineer - Nokia Mobile Phones and software engineer with almost 30 years experience developing large-scale distributed systems, and he swears by it as a rock solid platform for his tasks though at work.
