I just did an upgrade && dist-upgrade and got this message at the end of the install:
The following packages have been kept back:
extlinux syslinux syslinux-common
Just wondering why these were held back?
Thanks in advance for any info

#2IIRC, those are held back to ensure compatiability with the live system. which is still important to an installed system since there is the iso-snapshot utility.

What d_o says and to add that if have no intention of creating live isos of antiX or running remaster, then you can remove the 3 held apps.

When syslinux added support for UEFI, they broke support for gfxboot which relies on BIOS calls. Gfxboot is what allows us to have Fn-key menus in the live bootloader. It is almost as if there is a conspiracy afoot to cripple Linux bootloaders. Why not limit gfxboot support to BIOS booting rather than break it for everyone? The dev who broke it says they will fix the problem by porting gfxboot to UEFI. That is idiotic. It means they will never fix the problem.
