My son bought me bluetooth headphones for my birthday, and so because my laptops are old, they don't have bluetooth built in, so I bought a cheap CSR8510 A10 dongle from Ebay and plugged it in hoping I could get it to work.

dmesg could see it

lsusb could see it

hcitool scan found my phone but not the headphones

so I rooted around and found a couple sites

after adding the blacklist and reset and rebooting the scan now finds the headphones.

But what do I do to make them work? I don't get any sound from them and I'm not sure how to tun it on. I would have expected another sound card to appear or something like that, not sure exactly, but I don't see anything.

Happy Birthday. __{{emoticon}}__

I had to install pulse audio from the meta package install to get my external skull candy bluetooth external speaker to be seen and pair up with my AntiX laptop. Bluetooth can be a bitch is all I know. Took me all day to figure out how to get sound out.

< Like you. Bluetooth was new tech for me and I had no clue on what to do>

I tried with alsa 1st. But too many edits needed being done from too many suggestions on the net and pulse audio was just easier for pairing for me.

Bluetooth and alsa have a long way to go for just out of the box hook ups. You can try the antix control center> hardware > test sound button to check for bluetooth headphone sounds you know.

My notes are below if they are any use. I am trying to build me another hard tail motorcycle before June gets here. So I am kinda real busy.
My computer time has been cut back because of this,

I have both Bluetooth headphones and Bluetooth compatible speakers.

My first"excursion" into this area took place when I noticed a couple of"barrel shaped", moderate sized JBL speakers (JBL Flip 2). They charge by using a MicroUSB to USB connection and the USB end connects to a power source - either an AC adapter or a connection to USB on a computer system. When I do use them I take them in a car

The sound connection on the JBL is through Bluetooth activation. I got them primarily for phone use and they've not be used deal recently because I later found two other Bluetooth-capable devices:

1. ATS-1050 Yamaha sound bar - we use it primarily with the TV, but we've occasionally streamed Pandora music from a phone.

2. Roybens DA030 - Bluetooth headphones with microphone and noise cancelling stereo output - I've used this many times with my Dell Ultrabook laptop.

I don't remember how often I've used any of these with my Linux distributions, but I don't recall having any issues with any of this equipment at any time either.

Thanks for the replies. I found a debian wiki that says alsa won't work with jessie (antix 16 based on jessie)

So I guess you are right, roky, I have to install pulse audio. It looked complex, so I was hoping to avoid it. Oh well... Have fun with your new toy __{{emoticon}}__
