I hadn't tried the old IBM with antiX for a while. I had it configured with Enlightenment e17. Nothing should have changed hardware or software (other than the bios battery is dead and it lost its settings). However when I try it now I just get a black screen. I can boot to init 3.
Not sure where to go from here - any thoughts??

What happens when you type
in init 3 boot as user. Also Have you changed anything in ~/.xinitrc or slim conf. file.
If you can see init 3 text on screen. I guess your LCD and Backlight is ok on your old IBM.
Code: Select all
startx

Also. I own 2 IBM Laptops (older ones).
If you had not fired up your laptop for a long while, During bootup. You should have gone through a fsck while booting. At least that is what my IBMs do when put away for awhile,

When I tried startx, it did the same thing - the sceen went black. No cursor, hard disk flashes for a while then nothing.
I believe I had changed slim.conf for automatic login (I changed that back). I don't think I changed .xinitrc
Is there a 'wizard' to reset the configuration?

I am not aware of a wizard. Usually. When I bork my installs. I do this quite often
by the way. I either use mc (Midnight Commander file manager) and nano in init 3 boot to sort things or boot up a live cd or usb session to sort things out.
Which AntiX are we talking about here. 8.5 or 11. Core,Base, or Full iso?
Reason I ask is do you have full iso install. I have stock 8.5 and 11 ~/.xinitrc and slim.conf files (for base iso and full iso) I can upload and you can replace yours with mine and see if at least you can get to slim login screen. Maybe login to icewm or fluxbox. So the only wizard I know sits behind the screen. __{{emoticon}}__
