I was messing around with a new distro I found... grml. I saw that in its Fluxbox menu it had a tool for configuring fluxbox called Fluxbare? Anyway...it is a graphical tool for configuring various parts of fluxbox including the menu, keys, and various other things. Most of us are ok with just editing the files when we need to but it may be a more new user friendly app to include. Just an idea!

It's in the sid repos as well. Maybe etch to. It's called fluxconf but it contains fluxbare, fluxkeys and fluxconf.

Personally I find it easier to edit the files by hand. The graphics tend to confuse thing foe me, at least in this case.

I agree... I'd rather just edit the text files. But it may make it more noob friendly. I guess they could just install it themselves!

I believe I've read that those packages are rather dated and therefore may not work well with newer versions of fluxbox. However, if it works reasonably well it may be a good idea to include it in the next release to make things a little more user-friendly.

This is a rather late reply to this thread, but the thread is very pertinent to what I was thinking right now.

I've had to change the fluxbox menu (and icewm) a couple of times after reinstalling. I was wondering if, not only a GUI, but is there an autodetect feature available for both wm's? I understand about the flexibility and relative ease of changing the menu using the text file, but I also like the option of installing an app and not having to worry about it or spend time typing. I guess that's what attracted me to xfce.

thanks.

If you install"fluxconf," you'll get an app to edit menus called"fluxmenu." There is also an app on the icewm side of things for editing the menu called"icemc." icemc is installed by default. On the fluxbox menu, there is an entry"all apps" which should bring up a window with all apps with entries in /usr/share/applications. For a similar entry in icewm, add this line to your menu file (do this edit by hand)

menufile"Applications" /usr/share/icons/gTangish-2.0a1/32x32/emotes/face-devil-grin.png programs

This is as close as it gets to dynamic menu entries in fluxbox and icewm.

Thanks John! I especially like it on the icewm side.
