I've just been working on switching my ipod over to my antiX machine. I have one of the little Ipod Shuffle's I use for running. After installing GTKPod and connecting my ipod to the USB port....I had nothing. The ipod wasn't seen by GTKPod.
I then opened a root file manager to see if Thunar recognized the ipod. It did and as I did so I noticed GTKPod now saw the ipod and its contents. After a little experimenting I discovered GTKpod won't recognize the ipod unless I open GTKpod as root or open a root file manager. Is there something I'm missing or is this normal? I also get an error message when I try to transfer files to the ipod (saying the transfer was unsuccessful) but the music is there and I'm able to play it on the ipod.
Any thoughts or tips?

If your using thunar and have thunar-volman installed open thunar>>edit>>preferences>>Advanced Check off"enable volume management" and click on configure. Open the"multimedia" tab and check off"portable music players" and enter gtkpod for a command. The next time you plug in the player it should be auto-mounted and gtkpod opened for use.

Thank you Erie! That solved the problem. No error messages and no flaky behavior on this last attempt. I had enabled volume management but didn't realize I needed to check"portable music players" and could set an option for a command.

Glad it worked out. Thunar is a great file manager once you get it all set up.
