what do you mean"hard shutdown?"

i normally use"shutdown" to imply"...properly" and"hard" to mean"only used in situations where alternatives dont work." so"hard power off" makes sense to me. if you meant another thing, id like to know for my own edification. cheers. and not trying to nitpick, just trying to follow you.

Hard Shutdown is like hitting the powerbutton, Power Failure, unplugging usb without unmounting it first. Stuff like that.

Was able to use the UEFI boot menu to boot Antix17b2 with which I had tried to update EFI grub boot, and then upgraded to newest code in case bugs had been fixed
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

I then followed the steps on the debian wiki to fix the efi grub boot. Note that i had to be booted from hd in EFI mode for me to use that debian wiki procedure. I was able to do that from the UEFI bios boot menu

rebooting now...

Success, system booted to EFI grub menu with windows there as well.

I am also a Windows refugee, forced to use win/10 on my work pc and running linux at home (illegal at work). It does take some learning and patience, no different than learning the stuff MS puts out, but I think you'll find that its more rewarding if you stay with the distro's like AntiX as compared to the ones that are dumbed down for everyone that can fog a mirror, because as you learn, you can make it do things the way you want it to, within your own limits to research, try, fail and eventually succeed. Remember that everyone here is here because they want to be, and helping because they want to, not because anyone paid them to, and when you get capable, maybe you can give back someone help as well.

You guys make a valid point,

When booting into Ubuntu live CD and installing then running boot-repair package the utility did indeed hang and I was chose to interrupt it after 1 hour.

There is a very high chance that this was what broke the network connectivity with AntiX.

Its hard to speculate what the utility did (damage) since I interrupted the operation.

Im getting more and more confused. When I went into my EFI bios I saw options on"primary hard drive" that listed <ubuntu> and <antiX> in addition to just the hard drives themselves.

Strange stuff. I will need to do more investigation to figure it out

I have version 16.2

I have a question. I saw 2 different grub screens, one that had a picture of the galaxy and planets and another that was just a black background and tiny font on the entries.

What is the difference between these 2? The one with the galaxy and planets was always flawed and missing the entries for my other operating systems.

The black background and minimalistic one was correct and had the proper entries

if you were to do an:

inxi -Fxz

and paste the results in, I bet we will see that you have a fancy graphics card like my Dell I7. The one with the pictures was where you updated the MBR, and the one without with the correct entries was the EFI one, at least that's how it was on mine.
