Greetings!

And -

Thank you! To the person and/or people who produce antiX, my thanks. I do not have the local culture down yet, but I hope to learn more about who is who over time.

My impression so far – an elegant, lightweight distribution, coinciding well with my current needs.

Particular kudos in regards to the desktop art. A perfect melding of art and technical prowess. The subliminal effect is considerable – calming and relaxing, while staying out of the way.

Fine work.

“How did you get here?”

POP! Blank screen. Smoke coming out of the computer vents. Pull the plug! Open the windows! Is it safe?

And it was such a nice computer, too.

To get back online I found myself poking through old forgotten computers of 2002-2003 vintage that I never got around to recycling – untouched for years - 32-bit Pentium 4s without and with Hyper-threading, 512MB-4GB of RAM, AGP nVidia 420-440 64 MB graphics cards. All with CDRW drives – PATA, not SATA. Not a DVD drive in sight.

New CMOS batteries. And then?

My first thought was Puppy Linux – but Puppy has become so complicated to download, with five different choices and individually sculpted downloads – that I couldn't even figure out how to do it – and I have been using Linux since Lindows and Libranet (R.I.P Jon Danzig).

And I never could quite figure out Puppy's security policy, anyway.

Most of the distributions recommended by Distrowatch for old computers do not fit on a CD – you would need a DVD drive. These old computers do not have DVD drives.

So here is one of antiX's niches. Please keep your distribution CD-distributable in size - and please keep the 32-bit option – for as long as you can.

AntiX is working pretty well so far. Any problems - I'll let you know.

Again – Greetings!

Thanks again,

Welcome aboard. __{{emoticon}}__

I came here from #! several years ago, when it was announced that it was ending.
Such a revelation, & so many extra options, especially for old hardware.
I use the 'base' & only install what I need, AntiX allows that, not many distros do.
