Can someone tell me antiX 8's version of Gnomebaker? I'm running 7.5 with Gnomebaker 0.6.4 and still getting the"directories too deep" glitch when burning a backup of my home directory--though that was supposed to have been fixed in 0.6.4. I can't tell from the antiX 8 docs what version is being used--but I suspect it's still 0.6.4.
Anyone getting the"directories too deep" flag?

Thanks for the info.
So what happens when you guys burn a directory that has more than, say, six levels?? Any error message? A good test would be .macromedia in Home (if you get the chance).

I don't use gnomebaker and I've never tried to burn directories like you mention. Is this for back up purposes? Maybe try and tar or zip it into one file??

Tarring and zipping have been mentioned as workarounds. Also removing the offending"deep" directories from the burn, which is not a hassle for configuration files in macromedia. But when its email archives in Opera, the inconvenience becomes more severe. The thing is, the developer of Gnomebaker said the problem got fixed in 0.6.4 (???).
I'll keep zipping and removing until the fix. But if *nobody* but me is making noise, maybe I'm somehow jamming things up myself (wouldn't be the first time...).
Yes, for backup (which I would think lots of people must be doing--thus running into this phenomenon constantly...and yet silence).eriefisher wrote:I don't use gnomebaker and I've never tried to burn directories like you mention. I'm afraid I've only used gnomebaker to burn iso images, so I haven't run into your problem. I did try to burn the .macromedia directory you sugested and it got as far as the pop up window right before the burn. I did not actually burn a cd but I did not see the message you talked about. Would it have shown up by that point or after I hit burn?

Try using sbackup. There is a button for it in the control center. There's also lucky backup; look for lucky backup in the programs menu.

Okay, try to actually do the burn. Then an error window will open to explain that the directory structure is"too deep" to burn (you're at 7 when the limit is 6...or something to that effect.) The burn fails at this point and you're returned to the opening gui. If this *doesn't* happen for you, please let us know! Thanks for the test.plvera wrote:I did try to burn the .macromedia directory you sugested and it got as far as the pop up window right before the burn. These sound like great tools. But what have folks generally been backing up with if not burning cd's/dvd's? Has everybody gone over to other kinds of media (external hard drives, thumb drives, online storage, etc.)?
I'd like to see a poll on what kinds of backing up people are doing. (We ARE backing up, aren't we??)
Hmmmm. I don't see any such button in control center. And no sign of lucky backup. I'm guessing these came in with antiX 8? I'm using antiX 7.5 and posted this here to find out what version of Gnomebaker was used in antiX 8 (maybe the thread should be moved?).OU812 wrote:Try using sbackup. Malanrich:
I tried burning the macromedia directory and got the same message you got about the directory being too deep (7, maximum is six), so it's a real problem.
I also noticed that if I clicked on the directory, after adding it to the burn list, and kept clicking deep into it, gnomebaker would eventually crash. I did this several times, so I guess there is another problem.
As for backups, I backup important documents to a CD and load them to a server at work. Other than that, I don't do regular backups.

I use an external drive. It's just so much easier, though since someone tried putting a brick through my window to try and get the drive off my desk, I'm seriously thinking about encrypting the data on it. Fortunately the window didn't break this time around.malanrich wrote:I'd like to see a poll on what kinds of backing up people are doing. (We ARE backing up, aren't we??)

malanrich,
I successfully managed to save a 7 step macromedia file to a dvd using gnomebreaker on my antiX sid box. (gnomebreaker version is the same as in antiX-M8 final)
When I get some cds I'll try again, and with a fresh antiX-M8 install

I don't trust cd/dvd's. They can get lost, damaged or stolen. With the server there are always at least 2 copies.
I have a print/file server that I put COPIES of my document and picture etc. I don't worry about OS related stuff as this can be easily had. I will compress large folders just to save some space but other than that it's just a straight copy.malanrich wrote: I'd like to see a poll on what kinds of backing up people are doing. "This application requires GTK+ version 2.6.x. Other dependencies include:

It's on this page that this problem is listed as a"fixed bug" for gnomebaker 0.6.4:

Come to think of it, I recall somewhere that Brasero had the same problem. I'll have to check that out.
This makes me wonder if some versions of antiX have some dependencies slightly out of sync with what gnomebaker requires. Here's what the developer lists:anticapitalista wrote:I successfully managed to save a 7 step macromedia file to a dvd using gnomebreaker on my antiX sid box.
