After re-reading my post, I am very impressed that you got something working, and not just mess things up LOL

In wicd, if you want it, click on the preferences, or what it said, up in the top right of the window.
The first text window will be empty, and the second will have eth0, or something in it.
Just type wlan0 in the empty one *or wlan1, maybe go back to the main window, and refresh.
