I'm sorry that it was so difficult to install fvwm-crystal. I did mostly everything from synaptic:

1. turned off mepis repos
2. updated repos
3. installed fvwm-crystal
4. added this line to the fluxbox menu 5. used the menu to launch fvwm-crystal.

I think the main problem was with setting up the login screen. I also have been trying out fvwm-crystal, and it does work fast on my box.
I'm not sure I like the layout too much, but I guess it can also be configured quite easily.
In some ways it is (at the beginning) more intuitive for a new user than fluxbox, but it is much bigger size-wise ie 19MB download as opposed to just over 1MB for fluxbox and icewm.

Heehee, i'm already thinking about it. __{{emoticon}}__ I really like some of the things about fvwm-crystal, but there's also a lot that i'm not keen on. I do find fluxbox (& openbox for that matter) very configurable, & quite easily as well.

But, i'll keep it on here for now so i can have a good look at it & try different things out etc.

Fluxbox is definitely faster though. It's VERY snappy & responsive, even on this old PIII Celeron (600Mhz) with 128mb Ram.

Hey this is a cool looking desktop. Since I am using kdm I installed it and just chose it from the menu. It looks good.
