Hi! I just installed AntiX and everything went fine (as far as I can tell). The only issue I've encountered is that when I boot it, I get to a CLI login asking me for my username and password. Once enter that, I get into AntiX but without a GUI. Of course, I just have to type"startx" to get to my full desktop, but I was wondering if there's a way to bypass that. I'm just lazy! __{{emoticon}}__

VGA controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon 2100

Thanks!

Did you save a previous /home? If so, you will need to copy the files from etc/skel to your username directory.

If not, there may be some issue with slim login manager. You could try re-intalling it.

Lastly, maybe the issue is connected with the boot/grub/menu. Boot with no vga=791 setting.

This may not be the same problem, but ...
I’ve got 2 machines that seem to refuse to load slim at bootup, and go to the cli login.
As root, type slim. Sometimes you’re told another instance of slim is running; ignore that and type slim again. That’s always loaded the slim menu, so far on these boxes. Log in as usual gui-wise.
The same HDD transferred to other boxes doesn’t do this.
Mysteries.

Alright, I'll try that suggestion, drg. Unfortunately, the previous suggestions didn't work. The good thing is that I feel I'm learning more! __{{emoticon}}__

Typing"slim" as root does get me to the GUI login. It stays if I log out of the session, but I go back to the CLI log in upon rebooting the system. Well, no big deal anyway; I won't lose sleep because of that. __{{emoticon}}__ My AntiX M12 is working great!

Sounds like it may be getting set to the wrong run level.

Edit: Take a look at (/)etc/inittab; or just try 'init 3' at the commandline.

Hi,

I have met with the same issue in a IBM T30 P4 with an ati Radeon 7500 GPU. But being busy with a PIII (much less well in words of cpu, gpu and ram, but on which X works fine directly) I didn't take care of it up to now. So the present thread may help me too to find out what goes wrong.

About Slim, is there a special way for replacing it by... Lightdm for instance, or is it just a matter of installing the new desktop manager ?

Remove slim if you like and install lightdm. (or whichever dm you prefer)
