i'm not sure if this(same /home) has to do anything with the problems but i thought i should mention it.
after i installed the graphics drivers with smxi many things got better or maybe worse...?!
programes freeze or crash some times and even after the boot it was lagging terribly.
after instalation of programes i do a menu update on fluxbox which causes the meny bar under"application" to be empty. then i just"restart" from fluxbox settings which usually solves the problem but today everything was crushed and i got on the login screen.
the title bars on the web browsers show squares instead of greek fonts i guess eventhough greek is installed.....
i don't mind to make a reinstall since it seems to be quite messed up but i would like to know if there are some things that should be considered so as to avoid all these issues.

i found some instructions that the problem solves if i make a new user so i did.
it seems fine by now, haven't used it very much though. the only issue i have is that i cannot"reboot"!
i thought maybe to delete the old"user" and hopefully it will work but i need to know what will happen to all the files of this user...
i tried to make a copy of them as root but i get error messages for the".files"!

i've messed everything up...

i tried to reinstall m11 with the live cd.
i made a new partition to have a new clear /home.
the installer gives me error and gets back in phase 1...
at the moment i can boot only with the cd.
i tried to install with the option of"lowram-vesa" but as i was almost done, the installer crushed!
by the way i found a 64mb ram and added to my system so i guess 192mb ram should be enough...

edit:
"lowram-vesa" was finally installed but not the grub! i got a message to try repair it after reboot but nothing happens when i try from the control panel

edit:
another attempt to install in fluxbox this time, gave me error the 1st time but everything went fine the 2nd!?
are all these normal? no sense to me. maybe bad cd.. i don't know.
anyway i've been struggling long time with it so i'll use it more tomorrow. on first glance though i found out that the iceape is installed but doesn't run.

kwstas,

I have been running antiX for quite a while and unless your download was verified, there is no way to know if you got a good burn, I have an old laptop and the burner is a little quirky, what I found to work on that one, is to go into the bios and set the cd-rom as the 1st to boot, and that usually took care of the problem.

cheers,

hey,

i guess this could be the problem... strange that the M8 version cd was giving me the same problems! is it hard to download a correct file??
i found some instructions here how to verify

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.codejacked.com/using-md5sum-to-validate-the-integrity-of-downloaded-files/"
linktext was:"http://www.codejacked.com/using-md5sum- ... ded-files/"
====================================

i'll try and get back...

this is how i've been making the installation too.

kwstas,

When you download the iso file be sure to dl the md5sum, after your dl is complete then in terminal type:

Code: Select all

cd /directoryname
go to the directory where your iso and md5sum downloaded,

then

Code: Select all

md5sum filename.iso
replace the filename.iso with the name of the iso you downloaded, after a bit it will show the md5sum, compare it to the md5sum you downloaded.

cheers,
