i am pretty new to linux and all been using it about a year though just dont know all terminal commands and such. i just installed antix to this hard drive alongside peppermint and crunchbang both crunchbang and peppermint run smoother with no freeze ups. for some reason antix has been freezing on my alot. it is not locking up to where i cant do anything though but sometimes a freeze does go for about 10 seconds. anywhere from half a second little freeze while typing like this or opening a folder. also moving the windows is really slow and i can move the mouse to the spot i want the window and it takes it 5 or 6 seconds to move there. wierd.
i have a desktop pc that is a little old but has new hard drive and memory in it. only 250 mb mem but with antix only using 60-80 so far that isnt bad. peppermint uses more than 180 mostly.
with windows i know when u get the wrong driver or no driver for something it acts this way so wondering if this could be the case here. i cant even smoothly scroll a webpage.

With the Brookdale chipset you are using for video (which I am not familiar using). Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will point you in the right direction for using smxi to correct the problem. I don't even know if you would be better off using the vesa driver on this chip set.

im not sure still what is going on. i had this problem without updating when i posted and still do now that i even updated with apt-get upgrade all and dist-upgrade both found new files to get thats why used both. i still have the freezing problem and can't scroll webpages smoothly etc. but i fixed the window catching up to mouse problem by turning off the opaque window moving in the fluxbox settings under right click. i really like antix somehow even with this freezing problem because i know there is probably a fix and i see the potential using 70mb ram to 180 over peppermint etc plus my wifi connection works perfect with antix than it does with peppermint. for some reason in peppermint it switches agressively between idle and sending/receiving in the middle of a page or download. the webpages load though just downloads are tough. i had wifi problems in the past so not tryin to mess with it.
btw rokytnji i am not sure what sxmi stands for i believe that is what u said.
anymore suggestions appreciated thanks.

I have been busy unborking/fixing a dist upgrade on my Cop Laptop. So I am kinda fuzzy right now.

Smxi is explained in the AntiX FAQ accessible in your help menu. I still have no idea on what driver to use for a Brooksdale chip though. Being a unconventional stubborn Linux using Biker. Here is what I would try.

I would boot my live cd of Crunchbang and run as a live session and go to inxi site and install inxi during a live session. Below is the Shortcut command for installing inxi in another distro (need internet connection). Need to be root in terminal also.

Code: Select all

#: cd /usr/local/bin && wget -Nc smxi.org/inxi && chmod +x inxi
Run the inxi in Crunchbang to see what video driver they are running since you say it does not freeze. Post Crunchbangs inxi readout in this thread for info purposes, Then you can get a idea of what is the best video driver to run in AntiX also.
