I finally got my computer shop to burn me a copy of antiX-M7 final--my first experience with any of the antiX-m7 versions.

I'm writing this from a live session of antiX-m7 on my old Dell Latitude, and here are a couple of first impressions:

1) No problems booting.

2) No problems with display.

3) No problems finding my modem and configuring dial-up. (This was my big fear.)

4) Menu system is simple to navigate.

5) Choice of apps is slightly different from Spartacus but easy to adapt to.

I have more testing to do, but off the mark this looks like my OS of choice for both laptops and desktops. The only question is whether to wipe Spartacus or keep it running on one box for comparison...

Conclusion: Thanks, anti, for a great distro!

Glad you like it malanrich.

If I were you I would keep Spartacus going for a while on one box until you feel sure Lysistrata is for you and your needs.

I still have a Spartacus partition on my box (though TBH I very rarely use it anymore). I have kept it to help those with k5/k6 processors as Lysistrata will not boot but Spartacus will. And I think that Spartacus is a very good OS for those with old boxes with k5/k6.
I think Spartacus is better than fluxbuntu, even though it is more dated so I would recommend antiX Spartacus over Gutsy fluxbuntu (at least at the moment)

Okay, I took the plunge, wiped my last surviving install of MepisLite off my desktop, and put on antiX-m7. I made the right decision. The install went flawlessly. Everything works (so far).

One reason I'd hesitated was lack of internal modem support in all Mepis versions after 3.4. But recent postings at MepisLovers indicate real improvement in internal modem recognition. So I'm taking the chance that downloading ltmodem modules and/or martian-modem will get this internal lucent/agera puppy humming.

But I'll have to grab my serial external modem off of another box in order to get the internet connection for downloading the modules. Why do we have modules in the repos that have to be downloaded in order to get an internet connection for downloading modules (??).
