What's the problem that we are supposed to be looking for in dmesg?
Be more detailed in describing what the problem is, what AntiX version, Computer make and model number nad specs. A

Code: Select all

inxi -F
report.
Stuff like that before we can even think of helping you.

I am having a hard day with a cpu change over and think I have cooked a mother board so excuse me if I seem a bit stressed.
Happy Trails, Rok
Please don't post multiple threads on the same subject
Is it me? What part of that don't you understand?

I am doing this instead of deleting this thread also. I'll let Anti handle this.

ERST is a error reporting module for ACPI. apparently the specification is a little spotty and some hardware bios's don't support it.

most report no problems, but if you want the error message gone try putting

Code: Select all

erst_disable
in your kernel boot line.

@rok...sorry, I thought I posted this is in the original thread, not the new one.

please forgive my multi-thread posts. first, when i initailly posted this i was on a dialup connection. no excuse, but that's how it was. i was having difficulty with the page resetting when i made an error in posting (i.e. uploading a file rather than copy and paste, too many charcters and thinking when i resubmitted the copy and paste it went through). my bad and i know it. as far as deleting the multiple threads, please do. as long as this one stays in tact.

thanks to dolphin for the help in making the message go away.

@antix - as i was going through the dmesg output, i was noticing things you brought up like the model and make. as i went farther into the output i noticed several bios bugs (don't know what they mean beyond what they say - did i say that correctly). also my quadcore processor is supposed to be firing at 2.5 or 2.7 ghz, but seems to be firing at 800 mhz according to cpu blowfish. there is a message about setting something in the bios regarding the cpu setup. the bios is a phoenix securecore with little to no ability to set or change anything beyond boot order, time, etc.

there are other issues in the output that i don't understand the meaning regarding"things" supposed to be set one way and are not, etc. all i know is that after reading this file (and this is not all of it -- it doesn't fit) is that i'm not running on all cylinders. diagnosis and suggestions for a fix would be helpful.

which brings me to: is there a way to"install a new bios" that is more configurable?

i did find fixes for other error messages that initially popped up during boot, so i'm not really the boob that this initial post has made me out to be.

thanks for the patience being shown. when i have the opportunity of a hs connection, things usually don't go awry.

cheers

your cpu probably steps up and down as needed. My core i5 steps down to 800 mhz when it isn't doing anything.

as for reports and bugs from dmesg output...well not all hardware supports everything that the kernel looks for. and sometimes fixes and workarounds happen but the debug messages persist. my rule is that if my system is solid and stable, I don't mess with much on the kernel side.

bios is vendor specific, so you would need to check with the motherboard/system vendor.

think I have cooked a mother board so excuse me if I seem a bit stressed.
Like i said. It sux to be me today. I figure I broke my best desktop computer.
I ran it all day and it just froze up and I have to wait till it cools/settles down before it will post to bios and boot AntiX ever again.
I am looking at
a. buying a new micro atx board,
b. buying a new power supply
c. buying a new cpu
d. buying ddr3 ram.
plus make sure everything will shoe horn into the Antec Box. I hate computers and computer related things right now so after this post I am out of here to jump
on my bike and pretend I am a biker again. I hate spending money on computers. It interferes with my weekend beer budget. So don't mind me kdd. I posted my previous post, in that state of mind. Same to you D.O. I seem to owe a apology for my bear in a china cabinet attitude when I don't have things go my way.

I am, leaving this thread and the previous one alone. Mainly because my mind is not clear and I am seeing red. This board burn is a bad ebay cpu purchase
and it just sux to be me and that is all there is too it.
