I was having minor problems so I re-installed Antix 16 and everything is fine now!! I guess it is never going to be easy for me with any linux distro!! My personal menu does not have any problems now!!

So what did I do different this time!!

First I unplug the ethernet cable from my computer before the install!!
Second I made sure the firewall was running ( sudo ufw status ) before I connected the ethernet cable!!
Third I did a terminal update ( sudo apt-get update ) and then I went to the package manager to update that!!

This install is fine so I advise everyone to install Antix 16 from a disc with the ethernet cable Unplugged!!

Probably something to do with your network - never heard of anyone else needing to unplug before installing. __{{emoticon}}__

I use Time Warner Cable so anything is possible!! In the past I have had problems with spammers and hackers so that could have caused the problem!!

I'm with fatmac on this; I've never seen such a thing. More than likely, this is a result of some curious configuration that was created to solve a particular problem; it ended up becoming a part of the network infrastructure, and this is one of the few times that the consequences of that infrastructure (whatever it may be) to surface in this manner.

I have not had problems installing either wired or wireless recently, but some distributions recommend that you physically plug in power if you have a laptop and that you also physically wire up to Ethernet during installation; that runs counter to the scenario you've experienced, cousinlucky, but at least you're"lucky enough" to have found a work around for your problem.

Hope it continues to work out for you.

+1 for cousinlucky

Similar experience on both Charter and a network it serves, with MX-15 and 'buntu14.04;
both forcing systemd on upgrade.

It is beginning to appear to me that Debian is, IMHO, becoming too chummy with 'buntu.

Comments welcome in a different thread if Mods so deem.
