Hi all,

I installed antix yesterday as the live cd was so fast it must be quicker installed - and it is!

However, I was having problems with the initial spalsh screen and grub - I could not see it therefore could not see the grub menu. So I installed grub again from debian. this is where the fun begins. Antix seems not to have the sda block devices on a permanent basis - I'm guesing they are created on the fly. Whereas debian doas not use sda for partitions. Debian uses hda for partitions. I faithfully copied over the grub entry from antix for antix to the debian grub menu. It shows up when booting and can be selected but cannot get past the grub menu. the error is block device invalid or not found or something to that effect. Last night I chrooted into the antix distro. But again because of the block devices being created on the fly when booting antix, and as I was not booting antix there were no sda in /dev. So grub-install /dev/sda or /dev/hda wont work.

Is there a specific way around this?

Oh and I have googled this subject.

Try installing grub again via the antiX livecd. It is in msystem.
(Quicker to type msystem as root)..
Click on Repair System Boot

And welcome to antiX.

That did it. I am now typing this from antix. Nice one. __{{emoticon}}__
