I am trying Antix for my Solar powered PC (Alix.1c - needs only 7W) - it is a Geode LX 800 Processor with integrated FPU and AMD Geode CS5536 Chipset
I tried all possibilities - failsave, vesa ... X is not starting - is there a possibility to install it in Text mode?

Just from a quick search, I don't see any reason why Antix would not boot into X. I would guess that it was just a bad burn. Maybe try to reburn the cd at a slower speed, 4X and retry.

It is not a problem of the CD - the CD boots fine into X on deifferent Computers - I tried it already on 10 different ones

I have not tried this and don't know if it will work but....If you are at a login prompt try to login with user--demo, password--demo. If you get logged in su to root with password--root. If you are still ok type minstall and see if it will give you a text base install. Who knows it just might work?????

it is a bit strange -
with puppy I cannot use xorg, but Vesa - but it seems, that it is something different the xorg with the vesa module
is there a possibility to download the amd module of xorg? with wget? I will try this

Try changing vesa to fbdev at grub/menu
ie
xdrvr=fbdev
Or set the monitor resolution to something else.
You can do this by editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Or dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
What does the Puppy xorg file look like?

There is no grub menu jet, because I am on the console after booting the CD - I can modify xorg.conf - so I tried to use aptget, but this does not work, because apt-get update loads everything, but does not extract it - so the easiest would have been"apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-amd".
I do not find the address of the antiX repository to get"xserver-xorg-video-amd" - to install it with ipkg - where shall I take it from?

There is a grub menu when booting from the livecd. When you choose your options, type xdrvr=fbdev for the default one.
You should be able to
apt-get update
apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-amd
from the Debian repos that antiX uses in /etc/apt/sources.list

Dunno if this will help, I just bought a

url was:"http://www.linutop.com/linutop2/linutop2.en.html"
linktext was:"linutop2"

that runs Ubuntu 6.10 :s on the AMD Geode . I'm not that confident yet so I wouldn't try installing any other distro (it's streamlined to minimise writes on the internal flash etc).
Here's my xorg.conf

It does use an amd module so i'm guessing what anti said is right.

the good news - I can start X with xdrvr=fbdev
but apt-get update is not working:
I am root - outputs
W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock
E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opend
@n2j3
I have a good xorg.conf - it is from Archlinux - until now it is the only distro with a pertect setup - even xubuntu is not setting up my HP LP2065 Monitor correctly
What I have running until now is
Fluxbuntu
Archlinux
VectorLinux Light
Puppy
Unil now I like Vector Light with Fluxbox best - it is the quickest, but i hope AntiX will be at least the same ...
PS: Ubuntu 6.10 I really can not immagine ???? - it must be really slow

and now the bad news
quite a lot of fatal errors on booting and it hangs up on the line
Begin: Waiting for root file system .......
Alert! does not exist. Dropping to a shell!
Check your root= boot argument (cat /proc/cmdline)
Check for missing modules (cat /proc/modules), or device files (ls /dev)

It does seem that there is a problem with the burn to get those errors.
Did you burn at low speed (x4)? and DAO mode?
