New problem...I have several boxes (older and newer) on which i installed antiX 7.01, opened Synaptic, reloaded, marked all upgrades, and let fly. Idk if Dillo worked before, but now when i open it, the browser window appears momentarily and immediately crashes. I did edit the menu to have it default to a different location but that didn't help. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Try to start it in the terminal to see if there are any error messages.

I just did a quick search and did not see anything matching exactly. It looks like somethings not matching up after your upgrade. I would try to reinstall dillo to see if this fixes it. Use synaptic to completely remove so it takes out the config files as well then reinstall.

Good tip - but unfortunately it didn't work. In synaptic, i tried to force the previous (stable) version of dillo but it kept reverting to the newer one before i could hit"apply." I don't know how to check ependencies in the version of synaptic that is in antiX. Do you know how? I am experiencing problems installing an HP LaserJet 1100 that has never been a problem in Mepis or any other distro. If i can figure the one problem out, i may get ideas for the other.
One thing about dillo - i haven't tested it on the one machine i really want it on -- and i did NOT upgrade that box so MAYbe it will work. Maybe i will just learn to not upgrade! __{{emoticon}}__

Just for fun I installed Dillo and it works fine. Synaptic should check dependencies itself but if you right click on a package and select properties You should see them under one of the tabs.
For the printer. search for HPLIP. This contain the printer driver and the toolkit for maintainance. Then set it up through CUPS. Open a browser and enter localhost:631 to get the CUPS interface.

I don't get it...my machine multi-boots; i have two HD's installed and Mepis is my prime tool but i put antiX on the other HD for testing purposes - essentially setting it up just like the half-dozen antiX machines at school Mepis does everything great on my comp. but when i boot antiX it has these two hangups (still).
Hmm... i got to get to bed. Thanks for the help tonight. I'll keep you posted...

1. For dillo delete the /etc/.dpidrc file and let dillo recreate it when you next open it.
2. As eriefisher says, install the hp stuff, and also lpr (may be of help) and set it up though cups.
These are the apps I had to install for printing:
hpijs
hpijs-ppd
hplip-data
hplip
hplip-gui
cups-pdf
cupsys
cupsys-client
cupsys-common
cupsys-driver-gutenprint
foomatic-filters
lpr
magicfilter
ghostscript
gv
xprint-utils

Thanks for posting this; I hadn't installed the printer yet. This saved me from having to dig through the notes I made for the rc. __{{emoticon}}__
I couldn't find ghostscript in synaptic; I think I have all the repos turned on, but maybe not. It prints great though!

Anti - you have made one happy man -- again! Like Mariel77, i couldn't get ghostscript but i installed a few things from your list i didn't have and (no surprise to you) - it all worked perfectly here at home. Now to do the same at the school library. Virtually done there.
Dillo is not working. I had uninstalled Dillo completely and therefore i could find no .dpidrc file to delete. I reinstalled Dillo (and it made that file) but it crashed as it was searching for the home site. Umm - yeah if you have a thought do send it BUT it turns out i can't use Dillo for what i needed since it's not java-enabled. (Sooo - the one teacher with a s-l-o-w box will just have to wait for iceweasel __{{emoticon}}__ )
Thanks to everyone who has been posting replies to my numerous queries...the Linux community and Mepis/Antix users have been very generous with their time and efforts, and i am trying to pass that blessing on to others.

Maybe you can use swiftweasel on the slow box.
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://swiftweasel.tuxfamily.org/"
linktext was:"http://swiftweasel.tuxfamily.org/"
====================================
They compile for different machines, and it makes it soooo much faster. I don't think I could use iceweasel on my PII, but swift weasel is nice.
There is also swiftfox, which I used to use, but they are on 3.0 pre-beta now.

Thanks for the tip! I have used Swiftfox and didn't notice an improvement BUT that was on newer machines. I'm downloading the P2 version now and will put it in the unit.

Try this in a terminal
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 dillo
and if that works add this line to the .fluxbox/menu
[exec] (Dillo) {XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 dillo}
