I'll leave the draft as is (read: on the server), but try to figure out a better solution within the next (boring) days __{{emoticon}}__

Maybe I should focus on coding rather than posting __{{emoticon}}__

Similar to other boot codes of mine, (only) if present, mean dhcX disables"automatic networking" and launches the DHCP client via /etc/rc.local. If the boot code gets removed, the according changes will be undone at reboot.
At least, the"new" code implements consistent behaviour (as well as the detail work I consider"not the worst of styles" ...). - If not met with opposition, I'll move the updates to the main code branch (latest at the 27.12.07).

Thanks.
I tried the new scripts and they work ok.
One point is that on boot it gives a message saying it is looking for /opt/scribbles/boincinit.sh
antiX doesn't have/need (by default) the boinc stuff, so I suppose it can simply be commented out from the planb_rc5.sh?

You're free to change my code used in your system - as long as you keep track of your changes yourself __{{emoticon}}__anticapitalista wrote:I suppose it can simply be commented out from the planb_rc5.sh?

I got the MEAN code into menu.lst, and dhclient & added to /etc/rc.local. I reboot, and wireless does not hook up after login, and when I look at rc.local, the added line isn't there. I verified it was there before reboot, and every time I re-boot, it's gone. Hints- I have to be ROOT to change rc.local. I tried to run dhclient from a terminal, and it required me to be ROOT again. How do I get this fix to work without being ROOT??
Thanks in advance. I have tried all I can think of, so I am at your mercy.

mean dhcX

I guess I just didn't quite understand. Added mean dhcX to menu.lst, and it works great.
This is my 4th machine with AntiX on it. It is an older Compaq Armada M300, 500Mhz laptop with 192Mb RAM. I used some of Macondo's tricks to lighten up things that load at boot. (Thanks, Macondo!). It will boot to login screen in under 1 minute!! I Love it. It just plain works. Spartan desktop is nice, too, although I do have Conky covering some real estate.... it doesn't hog too much RAM, or CPU.
Nice work, Anti- another keeper!
(I sold my newer lappy with XP on it to my Niece. She gave me this older one that she didn't use any more, as the Bloat of Windows was too much for it.... boot time to desktop in WinXP was between 9 and 10 minutes!!-- - She's going to DIE when I show it to her running AntiX in under a minute!!)

Glad all is well oldlongbeard. That dhcX part of the cheatcode is a new one that came with antiX-M7.01 (and not M7 if I remember correctly).
Full thanks for that go to UnicornRider, in fact for all the cheatcode scripts in antiX.
Macondo's tips are great and I'm sure your niece will be well jealous of antiX. You know you might be able to 'convert' her to it.
Oh about conky. If you don't want it you can switch it off via the fluxbox menu>Wm's>conky on/off.
Enjoy antiX!
