I am working on that old HP laptop again, I forgot all the trouble I went thru on it the first time around until I read one of the old posts i made about two years ago... The answer that worked was to install NON PAE version of antix mx-14...
I installed antix mx-15 after booting the non pae live version using this iso file name MX-15.01_386.iso...
did I do something wrong I assumed that booting the non pae live version would install the non pae version to the hard drive?
here is the link to the old thread from 2 years ago:

Hmmm. It is possible that the pae is the default boot entry. Use the advanced submenu and you should find a explicit nonpae.entry there.

You are right it defaulted to PAE in the grub customizer I am going to change that and see if it solves my issue... __{{emoticon}}__

NON PAE is not in the list of grub customizer, so how do I go about installing the NON PAE kernel???

Edit: I found a liquorix non pae kernel in the mx package installer, I installed it and the machine shuts down as it should...
However that kernel is a testing kernel so it says, can someone tell me how to install the proper non pae kernel please, thanks in advance... __{{emoticon}}__

It should be there by default already.

from main boot menu select the advanced menu

then one of the kernels listed without PAE in the title line. I've circled a proper defualt

if the kernels are present, then use grub customizer to move one to the top, to make default.

you can use the arrows at the top to move entries up the list.

It was there, I just was looking for one that ended in NON PAE, since all the others said PAE...
seems only logical too me they would have marked it better... __{{emoticon}}__
anyway that problem is solved, I will posting a new thread with a new problem next... __{{emoticon}}__
