This is for the full version.
qmmp - in antiX-M11
audacious - uses less RAM than qmmp
xmms - old favourite and IMO streets ahead of all the rest. But no longer developed, though easy to install.
other - you say.
Opinions requested.

normally i would say qmmp,
but since antix is a lightweight distro i would say audacious because it uses less RAM.
people wanting to use antix on old pc's would be better off with the lightest.
don't know anything about xmms, so that could be even better but with what i know it's audacious.

i personally like and still use xmms. It may not be under development anymore, but what do your really need in an audio player that it doesn't already do.

for my day to day i use deadbeef, because of the gtk2 integration. it's quite good.
my absolute favorite is goggles music manager, but i stopped using it every day because it doesn't recognize my icons and the latest build of fox is shinny, that doesn't go well with my all black setup.
if you look for the winamp look i would go with audacious.
on the same note if david makes minstall a gtk app then qmmp will be the only app in antix that uses qt libs, if we remove qt we'll save some space.

Deadbeeef is a good one. I use Deadbeef or clementine. Though, I don't think clementine would be considered lightweight.

I usually use xmms2 or the other cli-apps.
Just trying to get used to gogglesmm (more or less it works)
That said: i think aqualung is a good mixture of middle-lightweight and comfort too.
I like audacious too, and a lot, as it seems like the only gui-player which is transparent to me
(less friendly: the only one i am capable to use without headaches)

Hi, I'm not using antiX and I know it already comes with more then enough media player options (like qmmp - before was xmms -, gogglesmm and mplayer).
But I would like to say that deadbeef is excellent. I used to use it because I translated it.
It has many options and works very well.
I don't know how light it is but I suspect that it's quite light.
Even though it has quite a few preference options it was very easy to use but... it's originally written in Russian and maybe the English labels in some options could be not so straightforward to understand. I had this impression when translating it but I didn't know much about media players' lingo. After looking at the foobar2000 wiki I figured them all (and translated them in a clear manner to pt_BR).
It doesn't have official Debian packages because of some licensing issues (if I understood something about it, its author improved some libs and that wouldn't fit on Debian's licensing policies.. or whatever).
DEB packages are at

url was:"http://sourceforge.net/projects/deadbeef/files/debian/0.5.1/"

EDIT- maybe I'm missing something but I think that there wouldn't be a need to ship gogglesmm plus another one (like if it was deadbeef it could one or the other). Maybe just leave goggles.

hey thanks for mentioning deadbeef,
on my persistent usb there's a problem with lbc6 which makes it impossible for me to use a graphical music player because they all use that and deadbeef doesn't!
it's a good simple music player, listening to vapor eyes it's moving so fast it's standing still (read about it another topic) and it's nice, both things __{{emoticon}}__ .

I use pretty much what comes stock with release. 8.5 Full iso = XXMS.
11 Full Iso=QMMP & Goggles Music Manager.
On my AntiX 11 core iso LXDE I use LXplayer and Goggles Music Manager .
My Persistence M11 base iso USB uses XXMS.
All my players must work, because music is required, blaring through external amplifier and speakers in motorcycle shop.
Makes taking the heat easier.
MuuuuuuuuuuuHaaaaaaaHaaaaaaaaaaaa

In a GUI environment, GNOME-MPlayer is the least demanding of RAM and CPU. It makes a more than adequate audio player. XMMS was (and still is) one of the finest dedicated audio players ever created. It too is very resource friendly.
They both get my vote.
More demanding alternatives that offer additional features are easily obtainable from the repo. I prefer a lightweight standard distro to which the user may choose to add extra, heavier apps.
