Today I upgraded the IBM A22 Laptop from AntiX 8.5rc3 to AntiX 8.5 Full Final.
Been Playing around with it and I want to give it a distinct startup sound for booting into Icewm.

I downloaded a .wav file that I like.



My Icewm Startup file looks like the below so far. So I am a little stuck on what else to enter. I am keeping it commented out till I figure how to get the startup file to play the above .zip (forum wouldn't allow .wav by itself so I compressed it)

Well. Editing ~/.xinitrc under icewm entry to include the line

    ;;
       aplay /usr/share/sounds/Hal and James Brown/startup4.wav &


was a bad Idea. Slim failed to login __{{emoticon}}__ after I included that Line. Booted up to Live CD to erase that line in ~/.xinitrc . Fixed that experimental snafu. __{{emoticon}}__

When I read the title I thought that maybe you had recorded something by yourself.

To set it to start with Icewm just replace the 'pardus rock' entry for this one (you can put it in usr share sounds but you could leave it somwhere in your personal folders, which are easier to edit).

Also IceWM may not like the spaces inside the folder or file names. If it's not working for you rename the Hal and James Brown folder for Hal_and_James_Brown and correct the path.

And IceMs signature struck a chord with me this morning.
I keep it simple stupid
So what I did first was make me a new folder/directory in ~/.icewm and named it sounds.
Copied over the /usr/share/sounds/Hal and James Brown/startup4.wav file into the /home/harry/.icewm/sounds file/directory.

Rebooted and was greeted by Hal and James Brown. It is going to be a good day cuz I learned something about why ~/.xinitrc
can be the reason slim can fail to log a person in and now I can make my AntiX computer sound like a customised biker unit when it starts up. Maybe later I will try a
Harley revving .wav also. But I like this one for now.

This is my custom startup sound file (ogg) for my EEEPC 701SD.

edited my ~/.icewm/startup

play /home/harry/sounds/hog1.ogg
Can be done from AntiX Control Center to edit icewm in geany.

Downloaded wav and changed it to ogg via rename. Keep it in a new folder /home/sounds. Gotta have my Netbook sounding like a grunt __{{emoticon}}__

Just another sound file I installed in Fluxbox only startup file on Antix 11 base i686 on my motorcycle shop Desktop. ~/.fluxbox/startup

I liked the Tron movie __{{emoticon}}__



Startup Fluxbox takes a little longer loading up waiting for the sound file to finish but the guys who hear it in the shop think it is just too cool.

If anyone is using a LXDE Desktop. Below is how I get a custom startup sound going in AntiX core iso I686 LXDE

Just uploading some more I have collected over time. Some are from Spaceballs the Movie, The Matrix, 2001 a space Odessy, etc...



I found using

instead of

aplay
works better with .ogg files in AntiX 13 RC1 full iso. Works ok on .wav also.
