Actually. Dissapearing custom mouse cursor on all antix kernels from 3.19, 4.0 on up.
I have seen this before but kept it to myself as a kernel change to a non antix kernel will fix this.
/home/(username)/.icons/Xeonyx is what I am using.

I have a work around of sorts.
I hit CTRL+ALT+t to open a terminal.
Then the white dmz cursor will appear then.
Not my custom cursor yet though.

Then I can go into antixcc and change back to my custom cursor.
Using antixcc>hardware>configure mouse
does not change this disappearing cursor by changing from auto to manual in settings.

Just wondering if I am the only one in a bad spot of the universe seeing this kind of behavior?

Everything is updated in testing in testing AntiX 15 Beta also.

Another weird behavior. Running smxi by using terminal while logged into a desktop.
Picking drop me out of desktop option in terminal.
Just takes me to the slim log in screen again.

Code: Select all

# smxi

------------------------------------------------------------------
Your X/Desktop (kde/gnome/xfce etc..) must be shutdown to run this script.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Since you are currently in X, you will need to run smxi again after
X has shutdown, and you have logged back in. You will lose any work
you have not saved on your running desktop.
------------------------------------------------------------------
1 - shutdown-your-desktop Kill X now. Remember, you will need to log back in,
    and start smxi again.
2 - quit-script Quit smxi, don't shut down the current X session or desktop.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Would you like to shutdown your X/Desktop now?
------------------------------------------------------------------
1) shutdown-your-desktop
2) quit-script
Maybe too many beers? __{{emoticon}}__

Edit after title change to show touchscreen machine.

Another fix was to log out and back in. Then right click desktop to show the menu.
Then highlight a app and left click on it.
Mouse is still invisible.]
After application opens.
Mouse reappears.

welcome to the club! the disappearing mouse is a xserver-xorg-video-intel problem, not the kernel's fault.
because of that, i used to use the driver from experimental, now in unstable, as the mouse disappeared less.
my fix is to open iceweasel or alt-tab to iceweasel and the mouse will appear, annoying, but i got used to it.
as for the smxi getting to slim, you should ask h2 on the smxi forum. because i can't recall how i solved it.

as for the smxi getting to slim, you should ask h2 on the smxi forum. because i can't recall how i solved it.
Not today bro. This thread was just to document something I had seen before.
But dead brain cells were fuzzy on recalling on how I fixed it before.

Se we got a club? Keeeeewl.

Just bored and looking around tonight. No biggy for me. Thanks for the comeback dark-D .

Edit: What a tool I am for leaving this out of this post
the disappearing mouse is a xserver-xorg-video-intel problem, not the kernel's fault.

for smxi, from the corners of my insanity, does putting:

Code: Select all

/ usr/bin/slim
in

Code: Select all

/ etc/X11/default-display-manager
work?

I think a 1% biker like me is the only one who can screw up a install like this.

I'll try a symlink form /usr/bin/ 1st though.

try creating the file with that line in it. i have to go man. good luck to you.
Gave it the heave ho try. Made a etc/X11/default-display-manager directory. Made a symlink inside of /usr/bin/slim inside of that directory.

Rebooted. Had to log in through cli. Then startx. Gave me spacefm desktop. I guess I can run smxi
from cli login which is kinda a dirty fix. Change desktop at startx icewm in cli also.

Jump through hoop time I guess.

My dirty fix dark-D

No disappearing cursor in Stock Stable Debian 3.16 kernel. No touchscreen driver anymore either.
1/2 a dozen of one and 6 of the other.

I deleted the / etc/X11/default-display-manager after running smxi outside of X with that mod in place.
Figured I'd test a Liqourix out while I am at it. Time for a reboot.
Just to reiterate. 3.16 Debian kernel gives me a mouse cursor after login.
Not sure yet about Liqourix 4. I'd like to keep a 4 kernel just for the touchscreen if possible.

Edit: Rebooted in 4 Liqourix kernel. Cursor disappears. Also no touchscreen driver, At least the antiX kernel had that feature for me. So bye bye liqourix.

I am going to change the title to this thread as"latest intel driver in testing breaks cursor and touchscreen"

I did a dist-upgrade when all this came about. My original install had the touchscreen working just fine.
I did a kernel upgrade after the dist-upgrade and the disappearing mouse cursor on reboot into the new kernel
made me mistakenly believe it was a kernel issue.

My loss of touchscreen though now makes me believe it is a intel driver bug now.
Debating internally on doing a reinstall and not upgrading
X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver
Edit Again:

I must be tired. Touchscreen accepts input from passive platic pen. Not my finger.
So in kernels 4. Touchscreen is working. I have not rebooted in 3.16 yet to check if
pen touch works. Sorry, my bad. __{{emoticon}}__

#3.16 stock debian kernel = cursor shows on login#

Just stock dmz cursor. Then custom kicks in after opening icewesel.

#3.16 kernel works touchscreen on this netbook#

Just running one kernel. Tried ctrl+alt+f1 for smxi on a lark but asking me again to get out of X got me to my slim login screen gui again. So I can deal with a smxi bug without a reinstall for the time being. grub2 has no single user grub boot entry for running smxi out of X.

I can get by with that. I doubt a noob will though.

So marking this as solved for now.
