CUPS Printing

I have an"odd" problem when attempting to print using CUPS.

I have a printer that is shared on a desktop PC running antiX v12. I am able to print from two laptops that are running antiX v13 with no problems at all and have been for able to print for quite some time.

I installed Linux Mint 15 XFCE on one of the laptops and now can't seem to print from that laptop for some reason, that particular laptop will not even detect the shared network printer. Simultaneous while this is happening, I can print from the second laptop on antiX v13 with no problems so I know the printer is working as a network printer.

As an FYI, I try to find the network printer both through the Linux Mint application under System as well as via the CUPS web interface but with no success.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I have posted a similar message on the Linux Mint Forum as well.

I apologize for the multiple posts as I was receiving a forum server error when attempting to place this post and did not realize it was being submitted multiple times.

Mod edit: No sweat. I fixed it. I am not too printer knowledgable as I just run one HP Printer/Scanner and do very little with it in my bike shop.
Hopefully the more knowledgeable printers guru types here will pick up on this thread for me on here.

Happy Trails, Rok

Here is a further detail on this item as I received some feedback on the Linux Mint forum to confirm I could access CUPS both locally (via
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://localhost:631"
linktext was:"http://localhost:631"
====================================
) on the laptop running Linux Mint 15 as well as access the desktop PC running antiX 12 (via
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://IP"
linktext was:"http://IP"
====================================
Address of the antiX 12 PC:631) which was not a problem.

At this point the only difference that I can see is that the Linux Mint 15 laptop has CUPS 1.6.2 and the antiX 12 desktop PC has CUPS 1.5.3.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

have you tried copying the url for the printer from the working antix machine into the linux mint configuration. I don't know much about mint, but you should be able to access the cups web configuration tool at localhost:631 and configure the printer direct from there.

Here is an explanation and a workaround from Gentoo:
net-print/cups-1.6 no longer supports automatic remote printers or
implicit classes via the CUPS, LDAP, or SLP protocols, i.e."network
browsing".

The browsing functionality can be restored by running cups-browsed
from net-print/cups-filters as a separate daemon (just add its init
script to your default runlevel). By default cups-browsed uses the
net-print/cups-1.5 browse protocol, but it can also utilize zeroconf
(if the zeroconf use flag is set). See /etc/cups/cups-browsed.conf
for configuration.

Of course, directly specifying the location of your printers in
the cups interface works as well.
