i would save the download the file direct to your home folder and open it outside of the browser. I tend to use evince for pdf viewing.

Like dolphin_oracle says. Expecting 128MB of ram to muti-task Iceape and pdf. Somethings gotta give. So Iceape crashes.

Download the pdf and close iceape.

You can use wget from the command line (if it's installed on antiX, I'm presently on #!).
wget -c <url-to-file>

is there any output that may point out a problem if you run iceape in terminal? also does iceweasel display the same crashing problem as iceape?

edit: did some reading on google is there a log of the crash in /var/crash or /var/log for iceape? If so do you mind ATTACHING it to the post? I imagine it will be lengthy (over a couple thousand lines), so please do not copy and paste into the post

good morning guys,

i've been trying to gather some info as"dave" suggested. it seems that it works now but since i haven't changed anything i suppose the issue is somewhere else...
i haven't found any log in /var/crash or /var/log.
after i run iceape in terminal i get this:
"""" (process:2027): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed
failed to create drawable""""

...and today after iceape crushed i got this:
"""" Σφάλμα κατάτμησης (segmentation fault)""""

i hope these make some sense to you guys.

Might be due to lack of ram; create a swap file of around 512mb & enable it, then see if you get the same problems.

You might be better off installing Midori instead of running iceape. Netsurf is another option. Iceape support in Debian is flaky latley at best. I know. I ended up running a Static Sea Monkey bz.2 instead of Iceape on my Motorcycle Shop Desktop AntiX 11 Base computer. It is a P4 though with 1 gig of ram.

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy midori
midori:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.4.3+dfsg-0.1
  Version table:
     0.4.3+dfsg-0.1 0
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main i386 Packages
harry@biker:~
$ apt-cache policy netsurf
netsurf:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2.9-2
  Version table:
     2.9-2 0
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ wheezy/main i386 Packages
Midori would be my first choice. I installed as a backup browser on one of my other Linux installs (IBM T23 Laptop) P3, .1gig of ram.

Flash works in it.

Both installs won't take up a lot of space either.

i've tried midori but it crushed also!
i pressed the reset button and the icons of the desktop weren't loaded. iceape couldn't even start!

all were normally loaded after i turn off and back on though the problem remains...

i used iceape for some time untill it crushed and when i tried to start it again from the terminal, it can't start and i got this:

(process:1840): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed
failed to create drawable
Σφάλμα κατάτμησης (segmentation fault)

I would try another live cd like Slitaz or something. This is starting to sound like old computer hardware failure/blues.

I guess it is time to mention who made the computer, and model and when it was Made.

A

Code: Select all

inxi -F

report won't hurt either with the htop report, with Dillo running, that Anti asked for also, as well on Details on your box.
