Based on what I've seen in tinyme and fb mint, I came up with an antix control center. What do you think?

The screenshot shows feh being used to set the background. I also ran"antixcc" to show the menu in the screenshot. (The idea for using feh to browse through the wallpaper directory came from a site given to me by n2j3. See our thread in greek kafe.)

Well, it certainly looks great--nice clean face. And the options list has me thinking about what other configurations we'd want to add.

Question: What would you gain with this different from adding the same elements under a"configuration" heading of the standard fluxbox menu?

A link to the cc could be put on the main menu rather than having options buried in submenus. Also, when you choose"edit fb files", menu, startup, init, and keys all get loaded into scite for convenience.

Very nice OU812,
For less experienced users of fluxbox the CC would come in handy as John pointed out ie all the stuff is in one area.
Experienced users could just 'disable' or not use the CC feature.
I think it would be an excellent app for antiX.
What do others think?

Suggestions on what to include in it?
What does tinyme or pclinuxos cc have that maybe would be useful in antiXCC?

Ah, I see the difference. If there's a testing version of this available, I'd like to try it out.

I think OU812 has done an excellent job. While I am usually something of a fluxbox purist I see how this would make antiX a bit more"user friendly" for those just starting out. Yeah, IMHO, it should be included. Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the comment moron.

To all of you out there that use antiX, what do you think the antiXCC should include as well as what OU812 has already included?

I think a good one would be some sort of resolution for screens and a language choice.
I know they exist in the fluxbox menu in antiX-M7, but would it be better to put them in some sort of CC?

Another idea I have, which is based on smxi in sidux, is a way to install newer nvidia/ati drivers rather than relying on the ones in the repos.

Have entries for"reboot" and"restart." But distinguish them more clearly for noobs (like me) who sometimes think they mean the same thing.

Tinyme has two control centers: one for the system (this is mostly tied to the mandriva/pclos control center) and one for the wm settings. I'll have a more complete list of their cc when I get done browsing my music service. Thanks for the votes of confidence.

P.S. For those running a panel such as pypanel, the antixcc would look great sitting there...

I'd like having a command center; it would help a lot.
I like what John suggested including in his first post.

Unless you could configure it to easily add new fonts to the system ...

Great stuff. I would like to see it independent of the window manager. This way it could be used by those of us using other wm's. I personally use XFCE most of the time and I have seen others mention kde and gnome.

Here's a screenshot with scite and the fb config files.

I still need to figure out how to properly make the code executable, and I need to do some more research on the wallpaper feature: I can get feh to set the wall, but not"permanently". As for the fonts, I'd have to research it. As for other wm's, well that would be a separate control center. I will provide the script with instructions so you can modify it to your needs. As it is, it closely resembles the tinymecc except they have tools specific for their customized wm (lxde, idesk, etc.)

john

EDIT
This wiki explains how to use feh to set the wallpaper. It is beyond my capabilities, but perhaps someone could assist.

Here's the latest screenshots - only minor tweaking. Also, you can the edited ~/.xinitrc. This is best done by the user at this point - it will"load" your saved wallpaper when you next log in. In fact, if antix likes what we're doing, he may want to include the line in the next release. This step is only needed to provide a graphical way to browse and set wallpaper in any of our wm's. And as a bonus, feh is already on the iso. Please provide more feedback. (For example, I might be able to include a link for refreshing our menus for those of us who use menumaker.)

P.S. If you're curious, this shot shows the icewm desktop with a menu generated by menumaker.
P.P.S. If you're interested, I'm also considering an admin menu - synaptic, mepis tools, mc, etc. Anyone interested in sharing ideas? If so, pm me and I'll start a separate thread with an alpha screenshot.
