I am trying to setup Connectshares following DO's tutorial. When I get to the part where I select the connectshares.conf file, it says it is invalid and will go no further.

It sounds like you might have missed the step of pressing the spacebar key to select the file. This"fills in the line at the bottom" as mentioned in the video. Having done this, clicking the OK button (or pressing the enter key) opens the selected file for editing.

Perhaps the following links might help you along the way...

I would follow samK's guides. The format of connectshares.conf has changed slightly since those videos were made. I really need to get to making an updated one.

the main difference in the videos as far as the user is concerned is that share names need to be followed by a comma, even if there is only one. This is shown in the examples in the .conf files.

That was my mistake.

When I try to connectshares, it asks for a username and password. I don't know that I have one on my desktop. In my Windows network, I could access my desktop from the laptop without it asking for a password or username. I tried putting my logon name and password, but that did not work. Any ideas?

I worked through the writup again and now connectshares is working. I entered the password and username for antiX and it liked that and connected. Well, on to learn something else.

Good to hear you got it sorted out. As you found out, it's pretty easy to set up if you follow the guide.

In the opening post I've updated the link to the Connectshares section of the online antiX FAQ.
