Clicking on Desktop/Settings/Conky On/Off does nothing. So I tried the terminal and got:
$conky
Conky: forked to background, pid is 3833
username@antiX1:~
$
Conky: desktop window (600137) is subwindow of root window (18f)
Conky: window type - desktop
Conky: drawing to created window (0x1c00001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. __{{emoticon}}__

In a terminal
killall -9 conky
then logout and login and try again.

anticapitalista, that was the fastest response I've ever seen on a forum. Thanks!
While fiddling around, I changed wallpapers and that fixed it. ???? But it works now,
and you've given me another way as well.
